One Less Crutch for Brian Stinespring, Two More for Darren Evans

Well shit. So much for all that incredible depth at tailback for the Hokies in 2009. Per HokieSports and Kyle Tucker, Darren Evans went down with a torn left ACL in practice this afternoon. Evans was running a route and planted wrong, and collapsed instantly. This was supposedly the result of an injury a few days ago when Evans stepped on an offensive lineman’s leg and heard a pop. The training staff kept Evans in a non-contact blue jersey for three days and he was in a regular practice jersey today. Billy Hite and the staff must now count on Josh Oglesby, Ryan Williams and David Wilson to carry the load for the season. The trio is extremely hyped, but only brings 38 career carries in experience along with their collective talent. I’m certainly disheartened, and you all should be too. Evans worked extremely hard in the offseason to improve his strength and was poised for a great follow up to his record-breaking freshman season. Here’s hoping he makes a full recovery for 2010.
